In 1972, John Brown, who was running his photo studio business in Lewisham, set up a deaf chess club called "Silent Knights" which entered the Kent league for the first time. The players who took part were John Brown, Michael Freund, Mr Bosman, Keith Gibbons, Phil Parker, Michael West and Arthur Hall. The team then moved to Green Star Deaf Club at Angel in 1974.
Soon afterwards, John Brown helped to form London Deaf Chess Club in the Victoria area so giving the opportunity to more deaf chess players throughout London to play for LDCC. In February 1975, LDCC held its first AGM at Uxbridge Deaf Club with Ronald Cross as Chairman, Michael Freund as Secretary and Phillip Gardner as Treasurer.

LONDON DEAF CHESS CLUB was set up in 1975 and has been based in the Victoria area ever since. LDCC has been challenging for silverware for many years having competed in the North Circular League in 1976, then the Middlesex League and the London League in 1980.
The LDCC team has represented England 13 times in the Europa Cup for Deaf Chess Clubs with the best performance coming in 2001 in Lisbon, Portugal, when we won the silver medals. Presently, LDCC are still competing in the London League with our best season coming in 2008–2009 when we won Division 4.
